Ankle Sprains

When Is It Time to See A Podiatrist For An Ankle Sprain?

Ankle Sprains

This is the most seen injury in Accident & Emergency affecting over 3% of the population every year.

Sprains can be either minor or severe.  Minor sprains is when a ligament is over stretched or partially torn.  Severe sprains is when the ligament is completely torn.  In very severe sprains the end of the bone to which the ligament is attached can crack or be pulled off known as Avulsion Fracture.

Sprains are far worse than a break and can take months to heel.  The most common type of sprained ankle is where the foot turns inwards over stretching the ligaments on the outside of the ankle.

Ankle sprains are very common in sports especially running, jumping, changing direction or stop start sports.
